Self Reflection

It has helped me to shape my future direction as a clinician
-
Self reflection has grown my confidence professionally and personally
-
It has also taught me better ways to lead others to the resources they need for achieving their own goals
My Mission
At the start of my education I was focused exclusively on personal development. I didn't realize how impactful the culture of growth was among a team to help both clinicians and patients benefit. I now know that as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I will lead my patients and colleagues to challenge themselves by expanding their comfort zone, in order to attain a new self-understanding. Doing so requires perseverance from them, a trait that I share as I seek to consistently test myself: intellectually, psychologically, and physically. This helps me stay in integrity with myself as I refuse to ask anyone to do anything I would not do. I firmly believe that pushing past what is easy is the key to self-empowerment. I strive to connect with people and encourage their hearts in order to provide them with the tools to take control of their own wellbeing.

Leadership Development at Regis
Service Canine Trainer
Along with the team pictured to the right and Dr. Wendy Anamaet, I spent most of my SPT career helping to train a puppy for CCI. Our team took shifts rotating daily with a separate person providing training and care overnight. Being a part of this team allowed me to lead our classmates to facilitate her training so that Garin would be ready to move on to professional school in order to help a person or facility in need that couldn't afford her.In addition we were tasked to inform the public on the value that service animals provide and educate them as we interacted within our communities. Doing so hopefully continued to increase social acceptance of these animals and reduce stigmas around those who need their help. This was a constant challenge particularly when she was an adorable puppy and nobody beyond the team wanted to focus on her end purpose. To date, Garin is thriving in her professional program and I can not wait to see who she ends up helping as a service companion.

AAOMPT Student Special Interest
Group Representative
As a student representative of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists at Regis University I was given an opportunity to expand my clinical reasoning. The position required that as a student I organize events focused on expanding our students exposure to manual therapy past the curriculum. Multiple events each semester were instructed by AAOMPT Fellows with topics ranging from advanced cervical or lower extremity techniques to soft tissue and PNF. This was a great experience allowing me to lead my peers to take advantage of opportunities to grow as clinicians beyond the status quo. Scheduling events around the academic calendar and curriculum in addition to the schedules of clinicians improved both my time management skills as well as my foresight and consideration of what is ideal for others. While I took away many clinical and professional pearls in fulfilling this role, I acknowledge that the shift to virtual learning during COVID-19 hindered my vigilance and foresight to plan extra curricular events. In the future I plan to use this shortcoming to improve my ability to adapt even in unconventional circumstances.
Injury Assessment Coordinator
Arrupe Jesuit High School is an incredible institution where low income students work in order to pay the costs of their education. These students are undeniably hard working but don't have the luxury of a sports medicine team or athletic trainer. As a student under Dr. Mark Reinking, I was able to have the chance to help conduct weekly injury checks for all of the student athletes at the high school. After doing so for a year, there was a need for more clinicians. With the help of one of my classmates I was able to ensure weekly volunteers of other students to maintain consistent coverage. This was incredibly important to me as many of these students would leave health concerns undressed as finances limited their access to other care providers.

Over the course of my time at Regis I have consistently been one to enable others to achieve their best, and still need to improve my ability to inspire a shared vision. That being said I have grown in my capacity to set an example and model the way, which I hope to take with me to help shape the future of this profession.
